AlkaBurn Review: I Am Caffeine Sensitive and Here Is What Happened
I do not tolerate stimulants well. I tried it anyway. Here is the honest account of that decision.
Nadia P.
Is AlkaBurn suitable if you are caffeine sensitive?
No. AlkaBurn contains caffeine anhydrous plus additional caffeine from green coffee bean extract, and is not recommended for anyone with known stimulant sensitivity. Caffeine-sensitive individuals commonly experience jitteriness, palpitations, anxiety and sleep disruption at doses that others tolerate easily, and non-stimulant approaches to weight management are more appropriate.
What I knew before I ordered
I have known for years that I do not handle caffeine well. Half a coffee makes me feel wired and slightly anxious. A full one occasionally gives me palpitations.
The product page states clearly that it is not recommended for anyone with known stimulant sensitivity. I read that and decided the amount was probably small and I would be fine.
I was not fine, and I am writing this because I suspect a fair number of people make the same call.
Days one to five
Taken at 7am with breakfast as directed.
Within about forty minutes I felt distinctly wired — a racing quality that was not pleasant energy. Slightly shaky hands. A tight feeling in the chest that was not painful but was noticeable.
I cut out coffee entirely from day two, which helped but did not resolve it. By day five I was still getting a jittery hour mid-morning.
My sleep was worse from day three, despite a morning dose. That surprised me — I had assumed a 7am dose would clear by bedtime. For someone who metabolises caffeine slowly, apparently not reliably.
Days six to eighteen
It improved somewhat as partial tolerance developed. The jitteriness reduced to something manageable by around day ten.
What did not improve was the general sense of being slightly on edge, and the sleep. I was waking at 4am most nights, which is a pattern I get when I have had caffeine too late.
By day eighteen I had lost about a kilo, which I attribute mostly to appetite suppression that I was not enjoying — it was more that food felt slightly unappealing than that I felt satisfied. That is not a mechanism I want.
I stopped on day eighteen.
Read the cautions before you order
The side effects page lists exactly who should not take this, and why.
The refund
I emailed support explaining I had stopped because of stimulant intolerance rather than lack of results.
The refund policy technically requires thirty days of use before requesting. Support processed it anyway on the basis that it was a tolerability issue rather than an efficacy complaint, which their own refund page does say they will do.
Money back in eleven days, no argument. That reflects well on them and I want to record it, because a company that insists on thirty days of a product someone is not tolerating would be a company worth avoiding.
Who this applies to
If you recognise yourself in any of this, a thermogenic is the wrong category for you:
- Half a coffee makes you feel wired rather than alert.
- You get palpitations, tremor or chest tightness from caffeine.
- You have an anxiety or panic disorder.
- You are a slow caffeine metaboliser — some people are, genetically.
- You already sleep poorly.
- You take any stimulant medication.
None of that is a moral failing or a reason you cannot lose weight. It means the mechanism this product uses is not available to you.
What I am doing instead
Protein at breakfast, which does more for my appetite than the capsule did and does not make me feel wired. A post-meal walk. Prioritising sleep, which I had been treating as optional.
None of it is exciting. All of it is free, and none of it makes my hands shake.
If you are caffeine sensitive and looking at thermogenics, that is genuinely the better path, and I would rather have read this review than written it.
Pros and cons
What worked
- Refund honoured promptly despite stopping before day thirty
- The product page does clearly warn about stimulant sensitivity
- Support handled a tolerability complaint properly
- Some appetite effect, though not in a way I found pleasant
What did not
- Jitteriness and a racing feeling from day one
- Sleep disrupted despite a 7am dose
- Chest tightness that was mild but persistent
- Appetite effect felt like food aversion rather than satiety
The verdict
I am caffeine sensitive, the product page said not to take it if you are caffeine sensitive, and I took it anyway. That was my error rather than theirs. Jitteriness, a racing feeling and disrupted sleep from day one, partially improving with tolerance but never resolving. I stopped at day eighteen and the refund was honoured without argument despite the thirty-day minimum. If stimulants do not agree with you, this is not the category for you and no discount changes that.
